Berwick Holiday Cottage (Mariners) has spectacular coastal views across the river Tweed and North into the Scottish Borders Berwick Holiday Cottage (Mariners) is in the the border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed and ideally situated mid-way between Newcastle and Edinburgh, approximately sixty miles from either.

There is a main-line railway station and easy access from the A1.

The border towns of Kelso, Hawick, and Jedburgh are all within easy reach, as is the beautiful Northumberland National Park. The house is ideally situated to provide a base for those visiting the Edinburgh Festival.

Berwick Holiday Cottage (Mariners) is a delightful cottage which sits within its own large garden on the hillside above Spittal which is across the famous River Tweed from Berwick, and contains some surprising extras including a sauna and an office with internet connection.

There are superb views over the Tweed estuary, the lighthouse, and pier, to the north, and to the south Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle and the Farne Islands.

The beach at Spittal is a short walk away. Spittal has a general store and 3 traditional pubs. There is a beautiful promenade overlooking the beach and a cafe and amusement arcade. From the house there is easy access to the Sustrans No 1 cycle track and cliff top walks southwards towards Scremerston. The house is situated two miles from the centre of Berwick with its shops, supermarkets, historic attractions and eating places.

The house, which sleeps 8 people with an optional sofa bed to allow a further 2 people. With the two double and two twin bedded rooms the holiday cottage is ideally suited to large families or groups of friends, although smaller families are, of course, equally welcome. There is off-road parking and a safe storage space for bicycles or push chairs.

Berwick Holiday Cottage (Mariners) has full central heating and there is an open fire in the open plan kitchen/ dining room. With a real flame gas fire in the main living room.

The house is set into the hillside and is entered on the first floor. The accommodation is laid out with the living rooms and one bedroom on the first floor, taking advantage of the views, with the remaining bedrooms downstairs. This first floor could easily accommodate someone who has difficulty with stairs.

On the first floor is an open plan kitchen/diner/living space with an open fire, and a lovely lounge with picture windows and a south-facing balcony to enjoy alfresco meals. The lounge has a flat screen television and music centre. The kitchen diner provides comfortable seating by the fire, a dining table and chairs seating 10, a breakfast bar and a fully fitted kitchen. There is a television, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, full sized cooker, and microwave. Also on this floor there is an office and a large double bedroom with en suite bathroom. This romantic room has stunning views and a beautifully dressed double sized bed. The sauna can also be accessed from this floor, and can accommodate 4 people.

Downstairs on the ground floor there are two twin bedded rooms separated by a rather funky bathroom with shower. There is also a master suite containing a large double bedroom with king sized bed and picture windows, a dressing room and en suite bathroom. There is space within the house to accommodate the occasional extra guest. Please ask at time of booking. There is also a utility room on this floor, with washing machine and tumble dryer, and access to the rear garden. A cot is available, please enquire at time of booking.

To the seaward side of the property there is a large lawned garden with shrubs, decking and an established pond. Please note that adult supervision is required at all times around the pond area and no swimming is allowed. The lawn provides ample space for games and the sun deck around the pool is an ideal place to relax at the end of the day.

There is a well stocked vegetable garden from which you may help yourself.
